Stormy Weather

We had 1.45" of rain, lightning, a little hail and lots of wind last night.  Part of the tree north of our strawberry bed blew down earlier this summer.  Last night the wind finished it off.  It's now in the strawberry bed.  The martin house took a direct hit too, so it's down.  Electrical power was out for a while, but no big thing because we were sleeping and didn't need electricity for that.  Reports to the east of us are bad.  Stonger winds and hail destroyed crops, gardens, windows, roofs, and trees.

This week I've been making peach jam trying to get the fresh peaches used up.  The tomatoes are still producing so I've been making salsa and canning it.

I just took a couple of loaves of French bread out of the oven, and I'm getting ready to bake caramel pecan rolls.  Those will be for sale at Mound City Farmers' Market this afternoon, 4:00 - 7:00 on State Street east of McIntire Lumber.  We'll also have Cahokia Mound bread, and giant muffins (apple, banana, and blueberry).  We'll have tomatoes for sale again as well as jams and jellies.  Looks like it will be a nice evening for the market!
